project update

It's almost been four years since the first native trees were planted on the Conservation Estate at Mangarara Station. After an initial dry spring, Hawke’s Bay has been blessed with three excellent growing seasons which has allowed for good establishment and survival of most of the 94,000 trees planted on the 610 ha property since 2008.

It is now possible to see these young trees as they appear through the long grass and to visualize the striking impression these trees will make on the landscape in years to come.

Mangarara is open from 9am-5pm daily for the public to visit and experience “The Family Farm” and to make a short walk from the parking area to the Conservation Estate. There is also a picnic area by Horseshoe Lake. Mangarara Station is a half  hour drive from Hastings or Havelock North by following Middle Road to Patangata where you cross over the Tuki Tuki River then follow the signs to the farm. A location map can be found at www.thefamilyfarm.net.nz
